INDIAN CANCER GENETICS CONFERENCE – ICGC 2013

INDIAN CANCER GENETICS CONFERENCE – ICGC 2013
In collaboration with the Indo-UK Genetic Education Forum
Advanced Centre for Treatment Research & Education in Cancer (ACTREC)
Tata Memorial Centre, Kharghar, Navi Mumbai, India • 23-25 January, 2013

We invite you to the rst ever Indian Cancer Genetics Conference at ACTREC, Tata Memorial Centre. Though all cancers harbor
somatic genetic alteration, 5% of cancer cases have germline genetic alterations making it a Mendelian hereditary condition. Of the
One million new cancer cases in India, it is estimated that 50,000 are due to Mendelian inheritance. Research over the last 2 decades
has established that germline mutations in genes such as BRCA1/2, TP53, APC, Mismatch Repair Genes, Retinoblastoma etc. are
responsible for speci c inherited cancer syndromes. Molecular DNA analysis and genetic testing in research and health care setting
is now being increasingly used and guiding cancer control and prevention strategies in this very high-risk group. The eld of Cancer
Genetics is growing rapidly in India with increasing number of molecular diagnostic labs and research labs entering into the arena.
The Cancer Genetics Unit and the ICMR Centre for Advanced Research in Cancer Genetics at ACTREC and Tata Memorial Hospital
serves as the apex comprehensive cancer genetic referral centre in South Asia catering to oncologists & families from all over the
region. ACTREC is one of the two leading Indian centres in the International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC) project.

work shop--Epigenomics and Cancer informatics

Aim:

Epigenetics describes the heritable regulation of gene expression that is not directly encoded in the DNA sequence which is mediated by mechanisms such as covalent modification of DNA/histones and non-coding RNA. Stochastic and environment-induced deregulation of the epigenome contributes to diseases such as cancer and complex non-Mendelian disorders.  Recent technological advancements such as DNA microarrays and high-throughput sequencing have provided biologists to understand the epigenetic processes at whole genome levels. These technologies generate large amounts of data which inevitably rely on systematic computational, bioinformatic tools in order to draw a definitive conclusion. The programme consists of a one-day symposium followed by a two-day workshop.
Symposium (January 10, 2013)
The symposium comprises of informative lectures by eminent experts in the field of epigenomics and cancer research. This will cover current perspectives in cancer epigenomics, experimental designs, high-throughput techniques for epigenomic analysis such as microarrays.
Workshop (January 11-12, 2013)
The workshop will provide hands-on training on DNA microarray technologies for epigenetic analysis, data pre-processing, quality assessment and normalization, statistical analysis of data, functional analysis, interpretation and validation techniques.

You can also register without submitting an abstract to simply attend the conference.
The 2nd ICSCC was a grand success in October 2011. It was one of the biggest International gatherings in India in the field of stem cells, molecular medicine and cancer biology. We had excellent invited speakers and presentations in the Oral and Poster presentation categories. The overall objective of advancing the science and bringing people together was met and appreciated by all participants.
This year, we have decided to organize this event in the city of Delhi. It is a great historical city connected by direct flights to most cities in the world. Delhi has many historical & modern monuments and many museums for the art lovers. It has nice weather in October with temperature around 25 degrees Celsius. Many great tourist places like Agra, Jaipur, Shimla, Varanasi, Lucknow etc. are nearby and connected with direct flights or trains from Delhi.
We look forward to welcoming you here in October 2012.
