Faculty
Scientists interested in applied and basic research with stem cells are invited to apply. Suitable candidates who have a PhD in life sciences or MD with post-doctoral work in molecular and cell biology, preferably with stem cells and capable of independent research. Exceptional candidates with other complementary abilities will also be considered.
Selected candidates will be provided lab space, equipment and start up funds, after which they will be expected to raise their own grants. Faculty working at the CSCR will have the opportunity to develop projects with clinical colleagues in the different departments of CMC. An MOU that CMC has with the National Center for Biological Sciences (NCBS), Bangalore will allow them to access facilities there and work with colleagues at NCBS, including spending significant time there, if required.
Salary will be commensurate with the qualification and experience.
Short Term Projects
Applications are invited from candidates who are interested in doing short term projects at the Centre for Stem Cell Research (a unit of inStem, Bengaluru) a collaboration between DBT and CMC, Vellore.
Duration: 4 to 6 Month's
Eligibility: Candidates who are pursuing MSc (Life Sciences/ Biotechnology/ NanoTechnology/ Materials Science / Bioengineering); B.Tech, M.Tech, MBBS.

Job Description
Reporting to the AVP (R&D, Formulation) you will be individually responsible for:
  • Managing all project activities relating to internal as well as external (out-licensed) development; from project selection to dossier submission for generic finished dosage products (FDP).
  • Coordinating meetings with internal as well as external stakeholders and circulating minutes of meeting promptly.
  • Coordinating activities with contract third party vendors, manufacturers, clinical research organizations (CRO) and other related functions.
  • Working closely with R&D development team to provide end-to-end solution & project supportfrom early formulation development, method development, pre-exhibit batch, exhibit batch, clinical batch, bio-study & regulatory submission activities.
  • Regularly following-up with internal & external stake holders for predefined activities ensuring the project goals are met & deliverables are delivered in time.
  • Working closely with commercial, operation and business development teams to provide end-to-end solution & project support from regulatory labelling, process validation, scale up, technology transfer and other related activities.
  • Serving as primary support function to other project managers in advancing the development activities including PMs from CRO, CMO, third party vendors etc.
  • Coordinating activities to support procurement of all finished dosage components, active & inactive ingredients, and labelling, packaging & other related components.
  • Supporting regulatory affairs in filing of all dossiers for submissions & supplement / deficiency activities for regulated markets.
  • Providing regular updates to senior management team as well as updating monthly reporting or other tracking database.

With a Graduate degree in Science/Technology and an MBA in project management from a Tier I institute, you have 5 to 10 years of relevant experience, specifically for pharmaceutical development in the regulated markets. You have prior experience managing different dosage forms and have handled formulation dosage products. You have displayed high levels of persistance and have a go-getter attitude with the ability to function exceptionally well in a high-pressure environment.

IISc’s pen-shaped device can deliver drugs painlessly-TOI news

Researchers at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) have developed a pen-shaped device that will help doctors administer drugs, especially vaccines, in a painless and more efficient manner.
Instead of a needle, the device uses shock wave to transfer the drug into the patient.
Explaining about the functioning of the device, Gopalan Jagadeesh, professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at IISc, who spearheaded the project, said the pen can produce shock waves that create a thrust causing the drug to flow as a very thin jet.
“This jet will deliver the drug at a depth of just 160-200 microns into the skin as opposed to conventional needles that penetrate to 1 or 2 mm,” he said.
The project is being conducted in collaboration with researchers from the Laboratory for Hypersonic and Shock Waves and Department of Microbiology and Cell Biology, IISc. Shock waves are currently used to disintegrate kidney stones and, in angiogenic therapies, it is used to create new blood vessels from pre-existing ones.
The compact device has already been tried and tested successfully in the IISc’s laboratories wherein typhoid vaccine was injected into mice, he said. “After a few more experiments, we will also try it on humans.”
Further, the device makes drug and vaccine injection a painless affair.
“There is no pain induced in this process because the nerve endings start only after 100 microns. Further, a small amount of drug injected at this depth is sufficient to provide resistance,” said Divya Prakash, a collaborative research student working in the Aerospace and Microbiology departments at IISc, who is a part of the project.
Dipshikha Chakravortty, associate professor at the Department of Microbiology and Cell Biology, IISc, said since the device can help avoid needle prick injuries, it will find huge application in veterinary sciences.
“We will soon try the device on different animals as the skin nature is different for each. For humans, the pen can be used to inject vaccinations for bacterial and viral diseases,” she said.
Further, animal trials have also shown that a lesser quantity of vaccine is sufficient to provide resistance in animals against infection when compared to conventional methods.

It has four positions of studentship/traineeship sponsored by DBT. The areas of research are 1.Molecular modeling drug design 2. Vaccine design 3.Molecular dynamics stimulations.
